iPeace works closely with public and private institutions to enhance their governance. Our interventions in this area are guided by the observation according to which societies with more effective and accountable governing institutions perform better on a range of issues, from economic growth to human development and social cohesion. Our activities aim at empowering citizens to meaningfully participate in decision-making and supporting mechanisms that increase leaders’ accountability. In Rwanda, our goal is also to foster an inclusive governance that serves and engages all people; takes into account gender and other facets of personal identity; and where institutions, policies, processes and services are accessible, accountable and responsive to all members of the society from the grassroots level up to central government.
